Carpet Cleaning Chemicals

There are many carpet cleaning solutions that are used, and quite a few of them can be dangerous if they are not used properly.  They leave a residue on the carpet that can be hazardous to children and pets and they also put chemicals into the air that can bother the lungs of people that are sensitive to them, such as individuals that have asthma and/or allergies.  It is recommended that people – especially children or those with breathing or health problems – stay out of their home for at least four hours after the carpets have been cleaned to allow the chemicals to dissipate.  Another good idea to keep individuals in the home or business safe is to use a truck-mounted cleaning system.  When these are used the chemicals that are exhausted into the air from the machine are sent to the truck instead of saturating the air in the house.  While this is not perfect and some chemical residue will still get into the air (as well as on the carpet) it is safer and healthier than the units that are not truck-mounted and that simply exhaust air into the house.  Using the utmost caution that can be realistically employed is recommended with all of these chemicals.

However, there are other options that can be utilized.  For example, true steam cleaners rely on the power of steam to clean the carpet and one does not have to use harsh chemicals.  In addition to this, there are many natural solutions that can be used for carpet cleaning, and these work without dangerous chemicals.  Some are good for spot cleaning and some can be used for larger cleaning jobs, but all are easier on the environment and on the people that use them.  Organic cleaning products and solutions can actually be purchased, but they are generally found at more specialized stores or over the Internet.  They also cost more than the standard cleaning chemicals, but most individuals would agree that the safety of the cleaner is worth paying a bit more for it.

For people that do not want to use harsh chemicals and/or cannot find organic cleaners for their carpet cleaning machine there are still other options, and many of them can be found as close as a kitchen cupboard or a tool shed.  This is because many products such as vinegar, WD-40, and others can be used for cleaning, but a lot of people are not aware of this.  WD-40 or other silicon-based sprays, for example, contain many of the same chemical compounds that are used in dry cleaning solutions and therefore work very well for taking stains from rugs, including stains from pet accidents, spilled food or drinks that contain red dye, and other items.  However, this kind of solution is for spot-cleaning only.  If an individual wants to clean his or her carpets wall-to-wall, there are other options that are still safe.  Vinegar is one of the best carpet cleaning chemicals that can be used.  It can be mixed with water and put in a carpet cleaning machine in place of standard chemicals that are used in that machine.  While it does not have the most pleasant smell the odor will soon dissipate and the cleaning power of vinegar is very impressive.  Best of all it is safe for children and pets and will not bother those with breathing problems, making it an inexpensive and safe choice for all involved.
